FogScreen

FogScreen is a novel immaterial projection display. It is a new invention which makes objects seem to appear and move in thin air. FogScreen has been said to be the innovation of the decade in audiovisual technology. FogScreen, which was initially known as WAVE (Walk-Through Virtual Environment), was announced in December 2001. This new revolutionary technology developed by the Finnish researcher Ismo Rakkolainen and Professor Kerri Palovuori at Finland's Tampere University of Technology, is a futuristic innovation that creates a thin white screen of fog. WAVE is a novel and intriguing method for forming a superior quality physically penetrable fog display. It is a break-through technology, literally! The image floats in thin air and when you touch or walk through it, you can't feel anything. It is a little like magic, a sure-fire attention-getter for publicity or educational purposes.

The goal of the seminar is to exploit the potential of the FogScreen through the intuitive interaction with virtual dynamic physical phenomena. These physical phenomena include particle systems, rigid body systems, water surfaces, and smoke fields. We discuss here its working, principle, technical requirements, projection properties, models and conclude with 3D interaction demos and advantages and finally its applications. The FogScreen has a better potential for emerging a user in a virtual environment by removing the spatial disconnect commonly found in more conventional computer interfaces.FogScreen's basic patented technology presents an enormous number of possible applications, sizes, forms, technical extensions (3D, for example), and versions. It can be merged with many technologies. For example computer-vision-based finger tracking could enable drawing in thin air, gaming, or a "fog web browser." With interactivity, the FogScreen becomes an immaterial computer touch screen with nearly unlimited applications. In the long term the FogScreen will be able to provide a meaningful interface for virtual exploration, performance and composition.

FogScreen Launches New FogScreen One Projection Screen for Ultimate Eye-Catching Experience

Multiple Projection Screens Can Seamlessly Interconnect to Create Desired Effect

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – July 17, 2007 – FogScreen, Inc., creators of the world’s first “walk-through” projection screen, today announced the release of the FogScreen™ One projection screen. The simple yet stunning device now allows a deeper breadth of creativity wherever there is a desire to attract a crowd and visually capture interest.

The one-meter-wide (3’ 3”) screen is seamlessly linkable with additional FogScreen One projection units. The result is a screen of “dry fog” that is customizable to any size for any venue – with no gaps between the adjoining screens. There is no limit to how many One units can be linked together. The larger setups are ideal for live stage events and where larger effects are desired. The smaller setup is ideal for more intimate settings. The control units provide the ability to synchronize and control images across any set of screens, enabling designers to create any effects imaginable.

“The FogScreen One projection unit has upped the ante for projection screens everywhere,” said Jorden Woods, President of U.S. Operations at FogScreen. “With the ability to interlink and control multiple screens in any configuration, dazzling an audience is even easier. Video, vibrant images and interactive laser effects can now captivate people on a walk-through projection screen of any width.”

The FogScreen One projection screen can greatly increase rental revenues for audio and visual rental companies and experience an unbeatable 300% ROI for just one rental. Not only are the units flexible – they can be kept separate or linked together according to needs – it is a new and creative way to provide clients with stunning visual capabilities.

The FogScreen One projection screen follows the success of the original two-meter-wide (6’ 6”) FogScreen™ Inia projection screen. Both utilize the patented technology to create the world’s first walk-through projection screen made of microscopic fog droplets, enabling vibrant colors and images to literally float in the air.
